Shintaro Koi Farm is run by Masaru Saito and is based in Mushigame, Nigata.
Saito san has over the last few years built a very strong reputation as one of the leading breeders of Sanke, Showa and Kohaku. The best koi produced at Shintaro are his Sanke which are of Matsunosuke origin from the magoi sanke line, though Saito san has over the years turned these koi into his own, through very selective breeding.
He has a very fine home and lives with his wife .......... and two sons ............ and .................
I visited Shintaro koi farm in January 2003 with my good friends Tim Waddington and Dennis Wordsworth of Infiltration
Tim and Dennis pictured below with Saito san.
Below are the Shintaro Greenhouses used to over-winter the koi. The house on the left is used for wintering nisai and older koi. The one on the right is for the current years tosai.
Tosai are kept in warm 24c water over winter and fed several times a day to promote continued growth over the winter. Below Saito san demonstrates how his new Auto Feeders work!!
Below are 2 notable koi produced at Shintaro Yorijo
I have at the present time purchased two Shintaro koi.
This female sanke I purchased from Infiltration as nisai in summer 2002 and was looked after by them until April 2003, I'd like to thank them for their service.
June 2002 when purchased. 02/04/03 when I collected the sanke from Infiltration.
