This coming Sunday we have the Dorset Koi Keepers Club coming to visit the farm. They will be having a Koi UK grow and show contest over the coming year with show tosai. Today Stuart T was on a days leave and came to the farm and helped me net the pond and select the koi for the Dorset Club.
There will be 11 entering and we selected 15 koi, when we made our final selection from around 75 showa, we photographed them and they were then placed into a floating net until the weekend.
The plan is that the photos of the koi will be placed into envelopes, each of the participants will draw from a hat their picking order, but is still out of their control, as they only pick an envelope which contains the picture of their chosen koi. The koi are all from the same parent set and are a mixture, some are larger than others, some will finish earlier than others, some have a chance of looking great in a years time, others will take longer. In my view all have good prospects of being nice koi and have a good future. It'll be good fun, I shall judge the koi from photos this time next year.
I have photos of the koi, but feel I should not post them. It keeps things a surprise!
