Saturday 1st March 2008.
Laying in bed last night, I could hear the gale blowing outside and it worried me no end!
I arrived at the farm this morning a little apprehensive, I fed the koi in the concrete ponds and then started the inspection for damage. The front side of the tunnels is very exposed to the wind as it faces west and the Bristol Channel. All of the damage incurred during bad weather has been on this side.
The inspection revealed bad news, tunnel 1 has suffered a little damage and has broken away at the pleated joint as described in an earlier blog. The roof in tunnel 9 has let go completely. This is the one that National Polytunnels fitted the new roof sheet last year, although I have no come back I'm sure because I supplied the sheet which was left over from when the tunnels were built back in 2004. Tunnel 10 has a slit about 1 metre long a third of the way down right on the ridge bar, this must have come about because of a little damage which has been there for a longtime and has now started to 'let go'.
It was a bad day and I'm a little disappointed the polythene has not last longer before starting to give trouble!
The rest of the day was spent repairing the roofs, sadly the orange canary has gone missing, I have locked the Zebra finches in the aviary, the 3 remaining canaries are still out flying, but I think I have made the tunnels secure enough to keep them in.
It's windy again this evening, I'm just hoping there will not be any more damage?
Not a good start to the month!
