Today was the start of a long Easter weekend for me. With the Open Weekend looming, it was time to start looking through the nisai which have been growing over the winter months. Some of these will be released for sale in a couple of weeks, other held back a little longer.

I've two ponds to go through this weekend with a total of 80 koi. The first today held 50 koi, each were caught up and placed into waiting show vats. When the pond was empty each koi was placed into a bowl, measured and photographed. At this point I decided if I would put the koi for sale or grow just a little more.

Remember these koi are nisai, that is koi which are in Japanese terms, officially classed as  age two but none these koi are actually two years old, but they are in their second year of life..

I have a bundle of photos to show you, but due to pressure from the world over, here is one for starters, but keep looking back as I'll add more later.

As a stated above, these koi are less than two years old.

Here is a chagoi born 23 months ago, Size 71cm!!

I'm used to getting good growth, but even I'm amazed at the size.

My good friend Stuart T thought he was doing well with the one he is growing for himself.

At the moment I think it is around 65cm, but as you can see, he is nowhere!:)

I really like this kohaku from my Matsue line.

Although the skin lustre is a little down compared to others, I hope it will come good in time.

This Goromo is one I am keeping back for a possible parent, time will tell if it has the qualities I am looking for.

After selling my best two kohaku on my nisai harvest day, this is the best kohaku still with me of this age.
