Return to blog calendar

It's been  flat out today, the 400 nisai and 1,000 tosai were collected. It's surprising how long it takes to catch that many koi, it gets hard on your back. For the larger koi we used a seine net in the concrete pond to gather the koi into a smaller area and then scooped them up 4 or 6 at a time, they were then transferred to a plastic bag and then emptied into my transport tank in the van.

For the 1,000 smaller koi, catching was easier, as there were 5,000 in the pond, so a swish with the net always came up with 20 or 30. These were bagged with oxygen.

With the 1,000 removed from the pond, it has lightened the load on the pond, although it still looks quite well stocked.
