Thursday 14th February 2008.
I started harvesting the mud pond with the larger koi in today, I'm not sure off the top of my head how many are in the pond, but it is a few hundred. Netting koi at this time of the year is fairly easy due to the cool water, it tends to stop any jumping and they remain quite calm.
I netted the length of the pond and then pulled the net around to the side, this made it cleaner, as I could lift the koi up while standing on the gravel. At this time of the year, lifting them up on the grass end makes a real mess of the ground and as the grass is looking a little thin at the moment, this was a good idea.
I harvested 100 koi today and hope to get some more up tomorrow.
The first barrow load. These koi are around 50cm to 60cm and will be on sale at the Open Weekend.
