Monday 25th February 2008.
You may remember on the 14th of this month I harvested 100 of the larger koi from mud pond 3. Well they settled in well, charging after the food when thrown in. Although the concrete pond they are in is unheated, the water is at 17c and this is high enough for them to be very active.
They have had no treatments at all, they seemed to be fine with no sign of jumping or flicking. Yesterday I noticed a couple jumping and thought I'd do a scrape today. Obviously the parasites have slowly been increasing in numbers, but as the koi were so healthy, have not shown any signs until parasite numbers were quite high. There were quite a few white spot and trichodina on the slide, so today I treated with formalin for the white spot and tomorrow I will treat with potassium. No big deal and all will be well in a couple of days.
I had an e-mail from Saito san of Shintaro Yorijo in Mushigame. I've many friends in Japan and wish I had more time to stay in contact with them, Saito san is one of many breeders who have helped me a great deal with my parent koi. I know he often looks at the web site, he sent me this photo which I'm sure he will not mind me posting here.
Things look a little different in Mushigame to my little bubble world.
