Sorry for the break in the blog, apart from the normal daily chores, I have been away from the farm for a couple of days doing some voluntary work with the digger!
I think I mentioned a few days ago that a friend was going to get me a couple of pairs of canaries to live in the tunnels along with the Zebra finches. He came with two pairs today from a friend of his who is a 'bit of a dealer'. They were in a cage and one looked a little strange sat on the floor and when they were let go it landed oddly on a perch and he said he thought it had cramp.
I left them alone to settle and then later in the day, sat and watched for a while. It soon became obvious that the green one only had one leg!
It manages well, but I doubt this hen will ever have any chicks?
They soon settled in and are spending much of the time on the floor between the ponds eating grass seeds.
Here they have returned for some real bird seed.
