Monday 11th February 2008.
The sun has been shining again today and I've been working in the mud ponds. They are not quite so sticky, but a very long way to go before the rotovator will go much further than the bottom of the slope into each mud pond.
Tomorrow I shall start harvesting the mud pond with the larger koi in. I think there will be too many for the available concrete pond space, but I'll see how it goes. It's funny, no matter how many ponds I have, there is never enough for the available fish and always end up juggling koi!
Had a good long look at the shusui today, I doubt there will be any show stoppers in the pond, but they look nice. They are from the Seitaro line and are very pale pastel blue with more an orange underside rather than red. The advantage of this line is the the heads tend to stay clear, even when many years old. Next time I catch them up, I'll snap some photos. Born August 2007 and now 4" to 6".
There are some more birds in the aviary at last, 2 pairs of Zebra Finches and today a friend has offered some canaries, which may be with me by the weekend. It'll be nice to have birds flying around again. I think I am mink secure now!? Hope so.
The Zebra finches are able to come and go from the aviary, although as yet they are not venturing very far.
It will be easier to keep them in now that the concrete pond tunnel is separated off from the main tunnels, chances of doors being left open will be greatly reduced.
