Return to blog calendar

The weather has improved of late and the forecast for the weekend is fine and sunny, so today I ran over the grass with the mower again. After cutting I put on the watering system for the first time this year, although there are many areas where the ground is still damp, some areas are dry, so some water was needed.

The trouble with the walkway is it's only 8ft wide and has got very impacted and drainage is very bad at the moment, this became more obvious when I put the watering system on. I am going to look into some means of aerating the ground, this needs to be some form of mechanical action, as the area is far too large to do with a fork or similar.

I've not had a look into any off the shelf machines, I am thinking I could make something up to attach to the mower, perhaps a wooden rolling-pin with 3" oval nails hammered part way in and a length of studding through the middle attached to brackets on the back of the mower!

Any other ideas anyone?
