The showers on the concrete ponds are always worked beyond their capacity. Although the biological side of things is never a problem with Bakki Showers running with Bacteria House Media, the waste processing at my feed levels always presents a problem.
Before you draw a negative conclusion on showers I must explain that I push all my filters to the limit and beyond. In normal use bakki showers will handle the waste pumped direct from the bottom drains, living on the media are creatures which consume the waste, but only to a point.
The ponds which have the showers fitted are 2,500 gallons, I can feed 2kg of food a day into these ponds and keep the koi in fighting fit condition. But slowly the waste builds up in between the media at a rate quicker than it can be consumed.
I realise I am working them beyond the limit, this has been the case for a couple of years, they should have some pre-filtration, but there is no room to add anything else, so twice a year the showers are washed through and over a couple of days the waste particles are picked up by the static Kaldnes.
Over the last couple of days, Cassie with occasional help from me, has been working her way along the line. The covers have come off, the outsides cleaned like a new pin and all the waste flushed through.
